Voicing Space

April 12th, 5pm, Experimental Theater

Jonathan Nussman and John Dombroski

A new immersive work for live singer and resonant sound, Voicing Space is a meditation on the harmonic subtleties of the human vocal process and the spaces (both internal and external) where it resonates. It is an exploration of the invisible yet tangible resonant frequencies of a space through the sonification of its architectural elements, a deconstruction and reconstruction of language, and a dialogue with voices past and present.

John Dombroski works with sound, experimental music composition, performance, and cinematography in site-specific installations. Using microphones and lenses, he creates physical systems that connect and activate architecture and found objects, questioning the ways in which our audiovisual, neurological, and cognitive systems produce sensory experience. By reorienting sonic and visual perspectives, Dombroski highlights the social and material histories embedded in place. Currently pursuing a MFA at University of California San Diego, he received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is an alumnus of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Ox-Bow School of the Arts, and Wave Farm. www.johndombroski.net
